Artist Statement Making is important to me, but how does one justify being a maker designer when there is already enough stuff in the world? My work is not about recycling, however reuse is very important to me. It is important that people's energies be put towards preserving existing objects and discarded materials to make them more functional than before rather than wasting them making or buying disposable objects. My objects are informed by their materials and making processes. I am interested in the history an object takes from its materials and its life. Two materials I use a lot are wood and newspapers. Wood has a natural history to it, which is revealed in the inconsistencies in grain; newspaper has a rich history in the variation of its printed information and what that brings to the piece as it is built up.
